Maintenance Engineer

Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult is recruiting a Maintenance Engineer based from our Blyth office, to lead and coordinate specialist contractors to continually deliver a high standard of maintenance support across all site assets and facilities ensuring they remain both impeccably maintained and available to Asset Managers ensuring they are reliably available to our wide-ranging clientele.
What will I do?
- Maximise plant availability through planned and preventative maintenance (PPM).
- Able to provide and/or find pragmatic solutions to plant and equipment failure.
- Operate, monitor and adjust mechanical control systems to ensure optimum performance within guidelines and procedures as well as mechanical inspection and testing to assist in fault finding and coordinating specialised service contractors.
- Responsible for leading technicians conducting routine maintenance/fault-finding and associated record keeping of site facilities and plant as necessary.
- Ensure that SHEQ legislation and company policies are being always complied with.
- Ensure that all work is carried out in accordance with the Work Authorisation System and all operational risks are minimised.
- Ensure visitors and contractors are fully briefed in all areas of operational requirements.
- Provide competent site cover for other members of staff as directed.
- Propose and support renewal and improvements, future developments and efficiencies within the test facilities.
- Complete ad-hoc duties relevant to the role under direction of line manager or their appointed deputy including the provision of cover across the site.
- Ability to work to an exemplary 5S standard demonstrating value to the business.
- Accountable for planning, managing, and controlling budgets within the assigned scope, ensuring cost efficiency, financial compliance, and alignment with business objectives.
- Utilise decision analysis methodologies to evaluate technical options, assess risks, and make informed engineering decisions that optimise performance, reliability, and cost-effectiveness.
- Take responsibility for developing and executing a comprehensive asset plan in coordination with Business Unit Chief Engineers, ensuring alignment with operational, financial, and strategic objectives
What are we looking for?
- Educated to / or progressing towards degree level or equivalent in a relevant discipline.
- Relevant training in lifting/slinging including PUWER/LOLER regulations (desirable)
- Installation fault-finding/rectification and general maintenance of complex plant and machinery
- Working with torque/tensioning equipment and associated gauges, sensors and measuring equipment
- Running equipment within set guidelines to meet clearly defined criteria.
- Sound knowledge of mechanical/hydraulic plant and apparatus.
- Motivated and strong team player – working individually and leading technicians through complex maintenance tasks and failures.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Good understanding of H&S legislation applicable to plant operations.
- Experience of working in OHSAS 18001, ISO 14001, ISO 9001, ISO 17025 environments. (desirable)
- Bolting and tensioning qualified preferable
- IT Literacy – working knowledge of Microsoft packages
- Possess a good strong knowledge of mechanical / hydraulic systems with the competence to diagnose/recommend, discuss and implement repair options with the Asset Reliability Manager and the wider site team.
- Understand machine principles and the ability to carry out are required checks on machinery and equipment.
- Capable of reviewing contractor and in-house risk assessments and method statements.
- A strong understanding of Health and safety practices and requirements including producing detailed risk assessments and method statements.
- Good understanding of Hydraulic systems.
- Ability to prioritise and adapt in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to plan complex multi-party machine interventions with accurate timelines.
- Understand the need and requirement of escalation and recovery plans.
- Work accurately, conscientiously, diligently and with attention to detail.
- Ability to communicate and interact at all levels with assertiveness, professionalism and friendliness.
- Strong mind-set for continuous improvement.
- Analytical skills with ability to use own initiative to solve problems, offering a range of solutions for project/test completion
- Assist the QA manager in obtaining and retaining quality standards as applicable.
- Represent the company on commercial and program issues
- Ability to deliver comprehensive maintenance training including breakdown approach.
